Homewood formed in 1926, when Edgewood, Rosedale and Grove Park voted to merge.
Hollywood, a separate town, joined in 1929. Edgewood had its own electric railway to downtown Birmingham by 1911.
It also had an artificial lake by 1915.
West Homewood, where the city annexed over 500 acres, has seen a boom in growth.
Homewood sits due south of downtown Birmingham, on the far side of Red Mountain.
Rosedale lies on hilly ground just over the ridge.
Shades Creek runs through the city, and Samford University sits in Shades Valley.
The Shades Creek Greenway follows the creek, and a tunnel under US 31 leads to Downtown Homewood.
