About Pelham

Knowing Pelham.

Oak Mountain State Park, Alabama’s largest state park, sits in the northeast quadrant of Pelham.

The first settlement here was Shelbyville in 1820, and Pelham incorporated in July 1964.

The Pelham Civic Complex has two full-sized ice rinks. City Park has a tennis center, a splash pad and a dog park.

Homes sit in subdivisions like Ballantrae, around its golf club.

Chandalar, Stonehaven, Holland Lakes, Cahaba Valley Estates and Camellia Ridge are others.

Stonehaven is platted in parts called the Ridge, the Glen and the Village.

Grey Oaks, off Shelby County 11, started around 2013. Ballantrae was still being built out in 2019.

The Census puts the median home at 2001, with about half built since 2000.

Nearly 14 percent are attached, townhome-style.

On March 25, 2021 a tornado reached EF2 strength in Pelham, and trees fell on homes in Chandalar.

Main roads are I-65, US 31 on Pelham Parkway, and Highway 119.
